A five-year-old boy was struck by a hit and run driver while crossing the intersection at Fairview St. and Victory Blvd. with his grandmother Monday, February 24, at approximately 1:00 p.m. Officers responded to the call about a child “reported down in the street, bleeding from the mouth,” said Lt. Eduardo Ruiz of the Burbank Police Department.
The child and his grandmother were crossing Victory Blvd. southbound on Fairview, when the suspect’s vehicle entered the intersection heading westbound on Victory and struck the child, according to Ruiz.
“The suspect stopped briefly, failed to render any aid and fled,” Ruiz added. “A witness who was passing through the intersection observed the incident and followed the suspect.”
The suspect fled the scene, continuing westbound on Victory Boulevard. A witness followed the suspect vehicle to the 7-Eleven at Hollywood Way and Victory. Unconfirmed reports say multiple witnesses blocked the suspect’s vehicle from leaving the area.
The injured child was responsive and appeared to have only minor injuries, said Ruiz. The boy was transported to L.A. Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.
Police officers responded to the 7-Eleven and arrested the female driver of the suspect vehicle, Meagan Booth, age 28 and a resident of Lancaster. She was charged with felony DUI and felony hit and run and was booked at the Burbank Jail.
Booth’s bail was set at $100,000. No further information is available at this time, according to police.
