The Zonta Club of Burbank Area is proud to announce that a new service club for youth dedicated to provide career guidance and to promote leadership skills, international fellowship and the ideal of service will be chartered on February 8, 2012, at 5:00 p.m., in the Burbank City Council Chambers at 275 E. Olive Avenue. Laura Peters, Governor of Zonta International’s District 9, will present the charter to the new Z Club of Burbank.
The Z Club will be one of the youth groups of Zonta International, the worldwide service organization of executives in business and professions working together to advance the status of women. Zonta International enjoys Non-Governmental Organization status with the United Nations and consultative status with some of its agencies. There are approximately 31,000 Zontians belonging to more than 1,200 clubs in approximately 64 countries and geographic areas.
There are seven charter members of the new Z Club: Andrea Baghaee, Heidy Gaitan, Yujung Kim, Cynthia Linda, Kathy Rodriguez, Natasha Servin, and Yenely Velasquez. Cynthia Linda will serve as the first president of the Z Club. These Z Club members will undertake service projects benefiting their schools, community, and the world. They also will promote the development of leadership ability and good character, and they strive for scholastic achievement and the improvement of international understanding through service. The Zonta Club of Burbank Area will act in an advisory capacity the new Z Club of Burbank. Burbank Zontian Brittany Vaughan, Director of Operations for the Boys and Girls Club of Burbank and Greater East Valley, will serve as the new Z Club Advisor. Z Club is open to all high school ladies in the Burbank area and will be hosted at the Boys & Girls Club.
The Zonta Club of Burbank Area was chartered in 1936. The Club is particularly proud to be reviving the Z Club in Burbank, since the Zonta Club of Burbank established the very first Z Club in the world in 1948 at Burbank High School.
