In September 2010, America’s Promise Alliance (the Alliance), the nation’s largest partnership organization dedicated to youth and children; announced the city had been named a winner of the Alliance’s 100 Best Communities for Young People (100 Best) competition. Its 2010 recognition is the second win for Burbank in the nationwide competition.
Burbank was named one of the nation’s 100 Best for its efforts to provide exceptional learning opportunities for young people and for comprehensively bringing the “Five Promises” into the lives of youth. Research and experience demonstrate that children’s chances of success in life greatly increase when they experience the key supports, or promises they need to be successful: Caring Adults, Safe Places, A Healthy Start, An Effective Education, and Opportunities to Help Others.
